Lopburi is the capital city of Lopburi Province in Thailand. It is about 150 kilometres (93 mi) northeast of Bangkok. It was within the large Khmer empire in times gone by and was briefly the capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Split into two distinct parts of the “Old Town” and the “New Town”, the majority of Lopburi’s major sights can be found in the older, historic area.
