The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Lantern or Mooncake Festival, is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Lunar calendar, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar. On this day, it believes that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn. Mooncakes are traditionally eaten during the festival and lanterns of all size and shapes are carried and displayed as beacons to light our way to prosperity and good luck.
This festival is celebrated in various East Asian countries like as Vietnam, China, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Nowadays, this celebration includes many cultural or regional customs like as performance of dragon and lion dances, carrying of brightly lit lanterns and enjoying moon cakes – symbol of the great family reunion.
